It's not like he's an unknown by any means, but he seems to be very far under the radar relative to how amazing he is as a hitter. Mostly because he plays in a small market on a shitty team.

These are Vottos numbers in his last 162 games

.348/.450/.635
.446 wOBA
177 wRC+
37 2B
41 HR
123 RBI

Said it before, I love watching Joey Votto hit. Seems like he chokes up more this year than ever before

He may be underrated in the sense that casual fans may not really know who he is but most people who follow baseball appreciate his plat

He makes watching someone get walked exciting. He's a master at it.

Votto is a great hitter and will be one of those guys that can decide when he hangs them up. He could probably play until his mid 40s if he went to the AL to DH.

If he played for the Yankees they'd probably have some cool nickname for him... Like the Captain, but he instead is in a small market and doesn't get the publicity that he deserves.

I said last year he was one of the best 5 position players in baseball and one ignorant soul actually chided me and made fun of the notion. For me there is no doubt and I'd say I might even be shortchanging him there. Top 3 might be closer to the truth.

I didn't realize his career avg is .312 until I looked it up for another thread.

Like someone else said people who know baseball know how good he is but he doesn't get 51 WAR in 10.5 years publicity.

odd that he is ofer in the AllStar game but he usually doesn't start so he faces great closers a lotI bet

Indeed he is. I thought Cueto was always underrated when he played there too.
