Simple Roper or Estate with click knobs. Inexpensive and will last much longer then the fancy ones.

Search for washer & dryer threads where Napoleon comments.

I think Speed Queen is the unofficial brand of the OT.

Jcpenney has a set of Samsung front loads, both steam washer and steak dryer for 599.99 each if you select white as the color.

I bought a Samsung set this year, think there were 1300ish for the set. Pretty happy about the look and efficiency. No real complaints, though I can't speak for reliability yet though.

I opted to get the steam wrinkle away crap on the dryer, pretty decent option if you dont like ironing.

For the washer I got a top loader, a seal on the door of a front loader is just another something waiting to breakdown over time.

I bought in to the Speed Queen hype after the flood when i got new stuff. They are truly remarkable machines. 25 minute loads. No water efficiency, energy crap that takes an hour plus per load. The speed queen is heavy and durable. It's guaranteed to last 25 years. I hate to sound like a broken record but it truly is the best there is.

I got a SQ after my HE washer died a few months ago.

Pros:
-I takes 20 minutes to wash a load, instead of an hour
-You can open the lid to add more clothes without having to wait for the drum to stop spinning because no lid lock

Cons:
The SQ was kinda expensive but I don't expect to need to replace it for a long time so no biggie

What's your situation?

Parents had Speed Queen and love it as do a lot of people in this thread. For my starter home, I went with Samsung because I will probably leave washer/dryer when I move in a few years. Once I settle down, I'll definitely invest in Speed Queen. It's no frills, but it gets the job done and is durable/reliable. What more would you want with an appliance?

Just got a Speed Queen top loader yesterday. A few loads in and this thing is awesome! Finishes loads very fast and it's solid as an anvil during the spin cycle. I'm a believer now and it is definitely worth the extra $300.
