Arrival was an amazing film, and by far my favorite movie of last year. The way it gets into the messiness of communication and translation was fascinating, and at the movie's core, there is a moral choice for which the movie doesn't really take a side, giving voice to both sides of the argument. I think she's right to have a child knowing what will happen, but wrong to not tell her husband of what was going to happen, robbing him of the choice.

It's also a beautifully shot film, and the scenes on first contact are genuinely terrifying. It does a great job of showing how scary the unknown is.

Amazing film

That seems a tad overboard.

Yes, they should have got here sooner. They should have explained or use a tech vehicle like the iPad or whatever she was using and made the communication sessions a bit more clear. But really at the end it wasn't about the contact, comm, or tech, it was they perceive time in a non-linear matter and Amy was able to attain this ability, somehow.

That is the guy directing Blade Runner, so i was watching for that. It was shot ok. At least my take away was with a good story throughout he should have the style that fits with a Blade Runner movie.
