Wet sanding is the way to go, I did mine two years ago, took me two weekends but I pulled all my cleats, rail, gauges, throttle, switches, etc. off so I could sand all around.
process is pretty simple, get some 3000 grit sand paper, turn a water hose on low so you have a steady stream wet area rub with sand paper until desired effect while wetting with hose. Mine came out new looking, I compound polished and waxed after, made a huge difference in keeping boat clean as wax held up alot longer.
