I don't know enough about boxing, and specifically the individual strengths and weaknesses of both (especially McGregor), but wouldn't this be just another thing that is "easier said than done," and something that other more experienced boxers may have tried?

And besides if this is the best strategy, why would it be any more likely to be effective now than before?

He retired 49-0 and generally regarded as the best fighter of the last several generations. 49-0 has only happened once before in boxing.

That matters to boxing purists, which Floyd is supposed to be.
