I visited a very poor preschool when I visited South Africa years ago. Now that place looks like it could be a lot nicer than what I saw, but ANY school and setting with lots of children are like petri dishes--even if children come from the wealthiest and healthiest environments.

While it would probably be a bit ridiculous if she was only concerned about HIV, but if she is even a bit of a Mysophobia (fear of germs), then it would make sense in that setting.

Edit: Upgrayyed brings up a good point that it's counterproductive to he eating it she was concerned about germs.

I remember when Greg Louganis hit his head during the 1988 Olympics and bled all into the pool and allowed a doctor to stich him up without wearing gloves.

Because Greg Louganis didn't bother to disclose to anyone that he had AIDS.

But Louganis was hailed as a hero years later when he finally disclosed it...while putting that doctor at risk.

When PC trumps sound medical practices, then society is fricked.
