Yeah Dorne was fricked whenever they made Oberyns paramour the main focus there. Her motive made no sense, she literally watched Oberyn volunteer to go to a trial by combat and then wanted to start a war because they "murdered him"

Not only that, she plans on starting it by doing the one thing Oberyn under no circumstances would ever do and openly advocated he wouldn't do it: murder an innocent girl. It was just so poorly contrived. Ellara Sand is probably my most disliked character in the show, even more so than Janos Slynt which I thought was almost impossible.

That really rankled me too. They didn't "murder" him. He chose to fight and was on the verge of winning but got too cocky or greedy in trying to get the Mountain to implicate Tywin.
But I think my main problem with the Dorne storyline was that they took a unique and interesting character in Doran Martel - someone who was just as consumed with revenge and ambition as anyone but who was playing a very intricate long game with infinite patience, and they pretty much just turned him into a nothing character.
To me, the Dorne storyline was the one place they whiffed badly in the entire show. And they were probably smart to cut it off like they did. I kinda wonder if they are planning to wipe out all of the Dorne forces (which are quite numerous if I recall) in another wave of the wand.
