Since I'm not sure this guy is getting out of a trip to Waco, just know Magnolia is THE ONLY THING (besides the In N Out Burger nearby) worth visiting. Downtown Waco is a dump. The cupcakes at the bakery are pretty damn good, but I certainly wouldn't make a special trip to Waco for Magnolia and cupcakes.

I do want to see Temple and Salado's shopping areas one day (along 35 going from Austin to Waco). Georgetown (north of Austin) has a nice little town square.

Sounds like you are going to be doing a lot of driving.

Oh and expect the river walk to smell like shite if you are going in the summer. I'm very much not a fan, but I'm in the minority probably. The hill country of SA is so much nicer. And as the person said about the missions on the outside of the city, they are pretty nice (some rough areas, but not terrible).

you clearly haven't been in like 15-years . It used to be 100x worse than it is now.

Regardless, the Magnolia thing is horrible down there. Just know that there's no parking and it's an absolute shite show. I don't remember the last time I went downtown during the day on a weekend. It would be an absolute time vampire.

I feel the exact same way, but I grew up in China Spring for 18-years before moving 15 miles down the road to Baylor campus. But for whatever reason, people come from literally freaking everywhere to see that stupid arse place.

ETA: If you're looking for other crap to do in Waco you can always go to the Texas Ranger Museum, Texas Sports Hall of Fame or that Mammoth dig site.

For food, I'd recommend Dubl-R (close at 2 on Saturday, closed on Sunday, close at 6:30 on weekdays) or Health Camp for a burger. Neither are all that far off from I-35.
