If it were not for the brave men who declared independence and fought what appeared to be an unwinable war against the British, your precious ancestor would have never had the opportunity to fight his war.

I'm sorry, but, considering everything we know as a country, including our beliefs, foundations, freedom, and democratic republic, is owed to a select few men with an incredible disposition for courage in face of insurmountable odds, the celebration of our independence is unequivocally worthy of greater celebration than a war that resulted in nothing more than the status quo accompanied with an end to slavery (with the cost of hundreds of thousands of American's lives). That's not to say abolition of slavery is no small thing, but compared to winning independence I'd argue it pales in comparison considering the USA would only a figment of someone's imagination if not for the bravery of those who declared and fought for independence.
