Because the ratings were through the roof
They didn't plan on a post election CNN. Ratings are up for them but so far behind the rest.
By january they were using cheap plots for ratings to stay ahead of MSNBC in the average even though they were consistently losing.
Now they're last and by a lot

And Trump was running for President. It's like saying that their ratings were high during the OJ case. Of course they were, everyone in America was tied to their screen.
CNN just did shite for the ratings and unlike Fox and MSNBC they showed all of his rallies live and unedited during the primaries. That's a big reason he got the nomination. He also rigged the debate against Bernie, gave him and Hillary hardly any press during that time, did a bunch of feminist and coming together pieces during that point to detract from Bernie, and propped up Trump as much as possible so Hillary would be against the worst candidate in American history. Then it blows up in Zucker's face, and I take great joy that it did.
I would give at least $300 to have the tape when Trump chews Jeff Zucker out to his face for 10 straight minutes after winning the election.
