This has become the default straw man argument. No one judges his Ole Miss tenure based on LSU expectations. He was a historic failure even by Ole Miss standards and expectations.

The questions are how successful will he be relative to LSU's expectations, and how successful will he be compared to other coaches on the market at the time he was hired?

Yes, it lined up perfectly for him. Due to an incompetent, lazy, emotional, athletic director, a gullible fan base, and an incredible PR campaign he managed to land a job he never would have been given consideration for otherwise.
