Anybody on here ever installed a recessed trolling motor tray in their boat. Im just wondering if there is a possibility of it weakening the integrity of the floor or if there is a possibility of cutting into supports exc.?

I have done 3. 2 in a xpress and one in my Rocket. No issues. I did install metal trays and once all the screws are in the tray supports it well.

I did mine. I didn't have any issues either, but I hated every second of it until I could see i wasn't going to hit anything expensive under there.
Probably the best thing I did to that boat.

I'll admit as well, the fear factor is definitely there but when done well worth it.

Yea the one I want to install is aluminum, just makes my gut turn thinking about cutting that hole in my boat but i had a skeeter without one, a surface drive without one, and a bumble bee with one and it is night and day the difference in the back pain and legs after a day on the water.
I got a 95 ebbtide dyna-trak 186TS in very good condition with a 175 Johnson for $3500.00 dollars, i wasnt sure about the dyna-trak but man it has some cool features for a boat that old, also came with a hummingbird helix 9 and 7. I tried my hardest to find something wrong with it cause the price was so cheap but everything checked out perfect. I just need a new trolling motor cause it has a hand control and a recessed tray!!!

So what do I need to accomplish this task. My last boat had the recessed foot control which was my 1st experience with one and it is a must have in my book. My dad has an xpress without and it seems the foot control is always in the way and sliding around. Anyone who did it before can walk me through? I talked to the dealership about it and he said he would likely have to send it back to the factory to add a brace which I think is BS.

Im not sure about the bracing or how you could fix it, im sure you can take it to one of the many boat fabricators around here and they could rig some supports, as far as installing you can tie some string to the back pedestal seat on your boat, mark the template that comes with the tray directly in the middle and use the string coming from the back of the boat putting it at the middle of the point on the front of the boat, line the template up and then take a drill with a 1/2" drill bit or so and drill out all four corners, then cut with a jig saw or whatever you please!!!!

^ this except you will need a sawzall as well if you run parallel inside one of the braces like I did.
