That's incorrect. The same should be true about football with that logic. Neither the Buccaneers, Jaguars, or Dolphins are supported by their fan-bases, yet FSU and Florida have top-notch football programs and are generally well-received.
It has everything to do with having successful programs, and college sports in general are simply more exciting than pro sports.
