Word got out that some ugly chick that was a game developer had been fricking video game journalists so that they would give her games better reviews. That was the match that lit the fire.

What followed was a massive revolt of citizens against a dishonest and complicit media (sound familiar?). Most of the video game journalists were big SJW types and defended the practice of collaborating with game developers during the review/coverage process (does this sound familiar yet?) and went further by accusing anyone who took umbrage as being sexist (how about now?) for going on a witch hunt against this cow.

Because the video game community has so much overlap with the youtube/video streaming community, which is all the rage for this culture wars bullshite, the "Gamergate" tag moved away from corrupt, dishonest journalism and became "Everyone who doesn't eat the arse of every blue haired gash in the video game community is a sexist piece of shite!" vs "Nuh uh! I know you are but what am I?"
