Because he's that good on defense? The dude almost had a quadruple double with steals against the clippers when he played for the hornets. You don't get that many steals just taking chances.
That being said, the OP is wayyyy underrating how good Paul is at defense IMO.

He's not the best on-ball defender, but he is always in the passing lanes.

So you would rather have Tony Allen or Danny Green guarding your starting PG than Chris Paul?
