he estimated costs for single payer in California was $400 billion annually. California's entire current budget is $180 billion. Even if they could get waivers to reallocate the $200 billion they get from the feds for healthcare, that would still leave them $200 billion short from funding the projected cost. Right now, California has the sixth highest state/local taxes in the nation
