They're paying that money regardless. So is he that much of a negative that they'd rather pay him to stay away? Or do they like him that much that they'd do him that favor so he could be in position to possibly get a ring? I don't get it.

Apparently so if the GM is publicly saying that he wants him gone.

Certainly can't rebuild and develop young players with him around.

With the current dysfunction surrounding that team the better question is why keep him?

Pretty sure you can negotiate a buy out for less than the total of the contract, right?

Secondarily, how incompetent is Phil Jackson that he talks down so much on Melo that he ruins any trade value he has and we're now talking about a Melo buyout?

They can probably stretch the buyout out for longer than his current deal.
