Either Monday or Tuesday we'd have to go Wholestaff... steal game 1 and we're a lock

Is everyone afraid to question the decision not to start Poche on Monday and then start Lange on Tuesday with three full days of rest for this one-time, special occasion? This used to be very common.

I know I am going to be pissed if we go two and out without our best pitcher ever setting foot on the mound.

Screw this line of thinking. Poche has great shot to put Florida away in game 2?or hand off to Lange in game 3.

I'm sure the Cubs would be ok with that

No people aren't afraid to ask, but they also aren't dumb enough to think we'd start a 1st round pick on 3 days rest right before he begins his pro career. Poche on Monday would be slightly more understandable but either way we're not throwing Lange on 3 days rest, so we need to use Jack Wholestaff at some point anyway. May as well give Poche another day to rest.

This isn't about fear. This is about playing the odds, without the advantage of our 3rd starter. If we had Walker available, he'd be the guy on Monday.

As it stands, JWS, Poche, and Lange is the right way to go.

If we take game one, and have a multi-run lead late in game 2, we have the option of going to Lange out of the bullpen to close out a championship

We have to go whole staff in either game 1 or 2. We dont have great odds in that game, so I like this approach with rr in game 1. poche gets another day of rest this way. It's really better for lsu if fla throws their best at us Monday. Then you get the match ups you want in games 2 and 3. As another poster mentioned, if we steal game 1, turn out the lights.

Smoking used to be endorsed by doctors doesn't mean it was the right thing to do. Things change as you learn what things like that can do to people long term. CPM would be chastised by Major league reporters and some clubs for overusing his pitcher. That's not a good look for recruiting purposes.

No matter what happens in this series, if you're pissed after this post season you can go frick yourself. Go pull for another team because LSU doesnt need you

Well yeah, but you're really dumb. No one really cares whether you'll be upset or not.

We've become an overly cautious society in general. And baseball coaches in their handling of pitchers get raked over the coals for ruining arms and overworking pitchers (see Skip Bertman).

I tend to agree with you it's gone a bit overboard and talking to some guys who have played and pitched, going on three days rest really isn't anything any of them would fear.

But perception and worst case scenarios tend to win out especially with pitchers about to go to the pros after this is done.

Lange doesn't throw until game 3 either way. You have Poche and wholestaff in the two games leading up to that. Whether you pitch Poche in game 1 or 2 you have to win one or Lange doesn't see the mound anyway. Why not let Poche get as much rest as he can?
