For you older posters... I was having a conversation with a fellow older conservative about how the fix was in for Hillary during the Dem primaries.

I mentioned that when Dole won the nomination I never met a person IRL who voted for Dole in the primaries. Was the 'fix' in for Dole?

Considering it was 1996, why would any of your friends be voting in a republican primary in Louisiana? Louisiana was a democratic state then with way more democrats than republicans

I voted for Dole. There weren't many viable options. Lamar Alexander got 11% in Tennessee even though he had dropped out a week before the primary. Dole wasn't a viable option himself. No one was going to beat Clinton.

Iirc, my parents voted for Pat Buchanon in 1996. Either him or Alan Keys.

I know for sure in 2000 my dad did vote for Keys, can't speak for my mother though.

Valid question. What an awful candidate. His energy made Fred Thompson look like Richard Simmons.

I voted for Dole, based solely off his WW2 service. He was a ww2 veteran.

Basically, it was 'his turn'. Those things never work out.

I had to look up who was running. These things all run together after a while.

I think the fix was definitely in for Dole. I didn't vote for him in the primary or in the general I voted for Ross Perot

I wasn't old enough to vote then, only was 17 then but I know my parents and grandparents voted for him in the primaries.

The choices in 1996 were awful and Dole had the name recognition from running in 1980 and 1988.

Dole's voting record was almost identical to Clinton's. Both qualified as "elitist" candidates.

Damn I forgot what an awful slate of candidates 1996 was.

Dole, Buchanan, Forbes, Alexander, Gramm, Dornan, and Keyes

So yes out of that bunch of losers I voted for Dole.

I voted for his brother, Deal Dole, even though he was a real prick.

Nah...Bill Clinton, Mr. Bob Dole were too old to understand the way the game was told.

Was similar to me as when Mondale ran against Ron. A party sacrifice then and when Dole ran v Clinton.
A rare time I did not vote.
