Some people may snicker at this, but most guys who have deployed know 100% that it is the truth...
He can literally buy one while deployed. I don't suggest this, but you can get your hands on a weapon pretty easil.
In Iraq suq AlMuraidi has every weapon known to man, and monkeys.
In AFG it's ridiculously easy to get a weapon.
Again, I do not suggest he do this, but it's at least safer than smuggling one into country.
EDIT: If he works with/gets cool with any SOF guys, they will give him one from the economy. We had so many weapons we didn't know what the hell to do with em.

Had an NCO in my unit do this in 03 before we rolled into Iraq. He got caught in Kuwait and got in serious shite. They did not take it lightly.
