LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) – Nebraska freshman receiver Keyshawn Johnson Jr. won’t play for the Cornhuskers this fall.

Johnson on June 9 was ticketed for marijuana possession after a resident director reported suspected drug use in a dormitory room. The four-star recruit from Calabasas, California, enrolled early and went through spring practice.

Johnson’s father, former NFL receiver Keyshawn Johnson, told the Omaha World-Herald that he wants his son to “mature” before hopefully returning to Nebraska in January.

“One thing you will not do as my son is you will not embarrass Nebraska, you will not embarrass Mike Riley and you will not embarrass this family,” the elder Johnson told Omaha.com. “If you mature and you’re ready to resume your football career and academic goals, then Nebraska will be ready to embrace you.”

I bet this pays off for his son in the long run.

Well hopefully it turns out better than it did for Cris Carter's son. It seems like Keshawn is on top of it.

It's weird to think of him having a son old enough to play college ball. If I didn't know who he was and saw him somewhere randomly, I'd think he was 25.

Good parenting, though.

Probably knows that his son wants to make it to the NFL, and he knows firsthand what it takes to make it to the NFL. Has to get his son's mind right now, because if he fricks up or slacks off down the line, his career and NFL hopes are gone forever.

Keyshawn Johnson is a MUCH MUCH MUCH better father than Lavar Ball that's for sure. I just gained a lot of respect for Keyshawn for doing this. Well done.

Had no idea a parent could pull a 18 yr. old off of a team.

If there were more families that had dads like Keyshawn, this country would be a lot better place.

Well I doubt legally he could.

But KJ probably has tons of money. Doesn't seem like they type to have blown it all. If Junior still wants access his Dad's $$$$ he'd come home right away.
