With Carr getting 25mil per year, Drew is definitely going to ask for that and a little more.

Doesn't Drew have enough Jimmy John's and Walk On's?!

Why do fans bitch about the money they get, I don't blame them id get as much as I could also they are in the prime of their lives and career. Drew I'm sure will be paid what he's worth.

He's worth whatever the market dictates. The 7-9 team is 2-14 without Drew.

because it is Drew's fault we've been dishing out shite contracts to everyone not named Drew that asks for them

(except for Ben Watson and Darren Sproles for some reason)

Here's your Top 10 QB salaries for 2017
Colts QB Andrew Luck: $24.6 million
Saints QB Drew Brees: $24.3 million
Redskins QB Kirk Cousins: $23.9 million
Ravens QB Joe Flacco: $22.1 million
Packers QB Aaron Rodgers: $22 million
Seahawks QB Russell Wilson: $21.9 million
Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger: $21.85 million
Cardinals QB Carson Palmer: $21 million
Giants QB Eli Manning: $21 million
Chargers QB Philip Rivers: $20.81 million

Where do you rank Brees in terms of production on this list? Top 5? Top 3? As long as we aren't committing to a long term deal and his play warrants a top 5 salary, then pay the man what he is worth.

Oh crap, Brees is worth too much money. We should just let him walk then so we can build a championship team.

Without Drew we have no SUPERBOWL win.
It is not Drews fault (including his salary) that we have become a 7-9 organization.
At this point Mickey Loomis and Sean Payton have enormous pay checks for life!

OOO I want to play find the idiot

So first things first Drew's cap hit is only 19 mil this year. Sam Friking Bradford has an 18 mil cap hit. If you are just going to look at salary alone educate yourself and realize the only number that matters is cap number for the year.

That would put him roughly 12th in the league this year.

now teams that finished in the bottom of their division last year.

Panthers
Chargers
Jets
Jaguars
Browns
Eagles
Bears
49ers

Of those 8 two actually have a bigger QB cap hit this year than Brees. Rivers (chargers) Newton (Panthers)

Besides those two teams, literally every single team whos QB has a bigger cap hit in 2017 finished with a better record than the Saints last year.

Fact is starting qb's in this league get 20-25 mil a year. That is the going rate. If one is making less then that's because he's at the end of his deal.

So yeah let's get rid of the First ballot hall of famer that consistently breaks records and has us in the top 5 in offense every year because it seems expensive.

you want contracts to be mad at then
Byrd
Gallett
Fleener
Jimmy Graham
Keenan Lewis
Browner
Marques Colston at the end of his career
Jahari Evans at the end of his Career
Ben Grubbs
add Armstrong if he can't get healthery

All contracts that have killed us in dead money without returned production. Hell Brees is playing for cheap considering.

Carr has more value at the moment than Brees just based on age.

That doesn't mean Brees won't ask for more and it doesn't mean we won't have to pay him to keep him. All it takes is one franchise (Denver) to think that they are one player away from a Super Bowl.

But, overall, I don't think it's unreasonable for Carr to get more than Brees.

And that would hit the cap for how much more per year? 1-2 mil? Legitimately asking because it seems like he is almost at 25 mil now. The biggest concern with Drew should be how long his new contract may impact the Saints. As in will his contract impact the cap beyond his playing contributions with the Saints.

Goddammit I swear most morons with this argument think, "Tom Brady takes a discount why can't Brees?!?! It's what winners do to win!"

Given the terms of his contract (unable to trade him and unable to franchise tag him) I suspect he will test free agency. The guy has plenty of money but only one ring. I could see him ending up in Denver, he would be a perfect fit up there and have the chance to win another super bowl before retiring. Assuming he has another typical Drew year and doesn't show signs of aging, other teams are going to show interest.

To keep him in New Orleans, probably a 3yr/60ish mil deal, that's only if he doesn't go looking for a ring instead.

Drew probably gonna look for a manning type situation where he can leave on a competitive team and leave with a super bowl.

He may not resign.
