So what was it you broke? I'm trying to remember if Airbnb includes insurance? I know vrbo offers it as an added expense. I'm trying to figure out why some shiteheads renting out a room would have something easily breakable worth $1000+?
Also, and I'm not saying this is right, but I've stayed in plenty of rentals with thin walls or otherwise crappy situations that were mostly out of the owners control. Pretty absurd for owners to do that though, what was their ratings? Was there any other complaints about that?

I was in Alaska visiting some relatives with a friend of mine. We were drift fishing for Salmon on the Kasilof river, and when we put in, my cousin, met us and told us to get into the car, IMMEDIATELY, because Mt. Spur had just erupted and we were going to try to beat the ash plume back to Anchorage.
We didn't beat it. It was about 6:00 PM (in Alaska, where it stays light until after midnight), and the sky turned pitch black. We had to drive on the Turnigan Arm, where the road basically skirted a cliff, with zero visibility.
We were flying standby on my friend's buddy passes, and our flight got cancelled. It took us 5 days to find a flight home. I missed 4 days of work, ended up catching a bunch more salmon, drinking a lot of beer, and hiking at Denali.
Maybe I'm getting this confused with my best travel experience...
