I don't know. Flynn probably connected to a trump associate, got recommended, had a flashy looking resume, and trump picks him. Big win, looks good for Trump. Flynn then gets canned for being stupid. Trump doesn't want him shat on because that would reflect poorly on Trump.
I guess. I don't really know.

Flynn spoke out about Obama and CAIR--ordering non offensive stuff to terrorists in military training manuals. As well as Flynn bucked Obama's weak terror stance and outright appeasement.
Obama fires Flynn. Trump wanted him because of this. It is as simple as that.
Your critique of Flynn as average Pentagon mouthpiece Joe may be warranted; but the man served honorably and I highly doubt is a KGB agent, or in line to be one.

The SC will likely be asking Flynn what the President knew about his actions and plans and when he knew them, even if he directed them. Knowledge of this may be making Trump a bit nervous.
