Yeah it is an Apple issue and they won't own up to completely acknowledge it. They fixed the hardware issue on the newer models. It is not related to software and restoring will not solve the problem.
The only way to fix it temporarily is to flex the phone and hope to temporarily reset the connection in the phone.

It is a very common issue with the iPhone 6 and especially 6 plus. Apple will now own up to it now if you are persistent.
My wife paid for repair and went through several refurbs with the same issue. Finally apple offered to replace the 6 plus with a 6s plus or a 7 plus with an upgrade fee.
When you deal with apple, try to ask for a senior advisor .

The issue comes from a faulty chip that is not soldered correctly (bad design) this can be fixed properly but not many shops can do it right
