That sounds ridiculous. I've had a wooden top on mine for 2.5 years and not a single burn to be found. However, I did not stain mine, and it is starting to weather.

What ya need? I've had my buddy make two of them for me and they were for large eggs.
2x4s and 1x4 are all he used. They're holding up great with outdoor stains.
You can go to a granite place and ask for a piece to place under or you can buy the mini stand legs that GE sells.
You'll love that thing.
