Who says the baseline is even par? Nobody, including the USGA. If this golf wasn't exciting, I don't know what to tell you. I personally enjoyed watching these players bomb it off the tee and not having to hack it out sideways when they missed a fairway. To each his own.

So what makes the US Open unique compared to other non majors if thats the direction its heading? That's the whole point of the thread.

I enjoy watching that type of golf as well but the US Open is supposed to differentiate itself, and has through its history, by being a brutal, unforgiving tourney.
