re: Which political group (mindset) has been most responsible for the making of the USA?

The modern American state has almost little to do with classical liberalism and hasn't since the end of WW2. I would say Straussian politics has been the dominant philosophy over the past 70 years. It accounts for the belief in American imperialism, neoconservatism and the accountability gap between the elites and those who are ruled.
