Right, but the budget towards gear was wayyyyy way overshot or it showed up as a huge negative on their financial report due to the crew spending over budget. They spent like 50k on gear for a small crew when we all know they could've gotten by easily on 8-10k. And how stupid do these two have to be to think they wouldn't get caught? Someone is reviewing financial statements and tracking inventory. This lady was literally advertising this stuff for sale on Facebook. They should both be forced to pay back the state and then spend some time in jail. It is blatant theft, not a case of "oh we thought it would be fine." Blatant and premeditated theft of state owned assets for personal profit

There was no set budget, this was a one time contract from BP with a blank check. Not defending their actions in any way, but this was a clusterfrick and a cash grab all the way around on the back of BP's guilt.

It took almost 7 years for them to get caught, and that was by an auditor, not anyone in the agency. Again, this wasn't done in the normal course of business, so there weren't necessarily any red flags just jumping off the page.

Agree 100%, this kind of shite happens way too often on a smaller scale and I think they need to be made an example of.
