Can those things ever generate enough power to negate the cost of installation?

My understanding is that they want to add @ 100 more windmills to that site. The first 5 are just to see how much electricity they can actually produce. Block Island runs all their power off of diesel. I believe the first 5 windmills are supposed to run around 15% of the energy that the island actually uses. I am not sure on that number though.

Just looked it up, and it is supposed to create 30-megawatts. You can look up Deepwater wind's Block island windfarm.
