That is where it gets confusing.... Long before Mardi Gras "cut" east of pointe a la Hache a cut in the river formed there was Mardi Gras pass across from fort Jackson several miles downriver of Mardi Gras "cut".

I can't speak of the history of the new cut east of pointe a la Hache as I don't go there that often but the other Mardi Gras pass has existed since I ca remember easily 35 years. That's why i first asked which one the OP was talking about.

The new cut is a wash out that use to be a small spillway on the road headed back to the Sundowner energy facility. Comes out a couple miles south of Beshels.
