These antagonistic reporters who think they can control the moment with whatever bullshite agenda they are trying to promote shoving a recorder in someone's face and ignoring the referral to the press guy is just looking for a physical takedown.

You believe you have the right to physically assault someone? You're a smart guy, Bandit. You know you have no such right.

Hum... I think that is more complicated than you'd like to believe. There used to be a natural order to things: if you acted like a dick, you got a beatdown. So people didn't act like fricking assholes all the goddamn time for fear of said beatdown.

Now though, everyone has the attitude of "I'll do whatever I want because you can't touch me. Na na na na naaa na!" and they choose to to run crying and screaming as soon as someone lays a finger on them.

I'm not saying Gianforte was right/justified in what he did, but you have to admit that the pendulum has swung way too far in the other direction and pricks are taking full advantage.

I would be careful on the assault thing, notice C below, if the recorder even touched his face the reporter is about to have insult added to injury and the pol is getting off on self defense.

And yes, this is the MT statute

45-5-201. Assault. (1) A person commits the offense of assault if the person:
(a) purposely or knowingly causes bodily injury to another;
(b) negligently causes bodily injury to another with a weapon;
(c) purposely or knowingly makes physical contact of an insulting or provoking nature with any individual; or
(d) purposely or knowingly causes reasonable apprehension of bodily injury in another.
(2) A person convicted of assault shall be fined not to exceed $500 or be imprisoned in the county jail for any term not to exceed 6 months, or both.

I have no right to assault someone unprovoked. But I do have a right to defend myself against 'assault' by someone else - regardless of whether or not they have a recorder in their hands.

If we want a civil society, those who act uncivilly need to be beaten down in an uncivil manner.

There are ways for true journalists to get information they need. They don't have the right to intrude on every aspect of their political opponents' private lives. This is what modern PROG/DEM journalists have become - ambushers and uncivil intruders.

This 'reporter' was not an objective journalist seeking information. This was a political operative trying to disrupt a political opponent.

I am as mild mannered a man as you could imagine. However, I have a sense of personal space and demand civil behavior. You can stand off to one side and insult me all you want and I'll just ignore you and go one about my way. But if you get in my face and demand that I bend to your desire to take me down, I am liable to shoot your arse.

As I said - I could never be a politician.
