aren't today's republican ideologies inline with the dem's ideologies from the civil war era?

Identical. I always have found that argument to be disingenuous. The racists basically just deserted the Democrat Party for the Republican Party during the Sixties.

The sad thing is I think that there are Democrats that believe this. Republicans have always been the party of individual equality. The problem is what people call equality today is in-equality just shifted the other way.

That is a myth

The South did not switch to Republicans until 1980. The change wasn't over race it was over religion.

The Democratic Party gave up any semblance of morality and lost the Bible Belt.
