It is silly, isn't it? Why would anyone want to remember one of the most revered & honorable men in both the North & the South at the time?

Robert E Lee commanded the same level of respect that George Washington did. He is one of the few honorable, highly respected leaders in this country's history whose soldiers would literally storm the gates of hell for him. He was highly respected by everyone, including black people. That is what is referred to nowadays as a "generational talent." He deserves to be honored much more than some of the other people from that time who have monuments.
