quote:this is silly. Parsons value to the rockets was always his contract, and that we used a 2nd rd pick on him. He was a steal bc we were paying him $500K to be the 15-20th best 3 in the league. His value was never his high end skills, but being a very capable NBA player at the fraction of the cost of his peers all with no real investment- just a 2nd round pick.
When he was with the Rockets, there were legitimate arguments as to who was the better player, Chandler Parsons or Kawhi Leonard. That sounds silly now, but they were both improving at similar rates until Parsons had career-altering injuries.
The rockets had their shot at kawai and went with a Morris bro instead

Yeah, his contract was great, but he was a really good player too. You must have forgot.
You can even google Kawhi Leonard or Chandler Parsons and see people on many websites discussing that very topic several years ago.
In 2013 Parsons averaged 17 points and 4 assists per game as someone who didn't always have the ball in his hands. He was a great passer in the flow of the offense and could score in and out, he played decent defense, and he was getting better.
In 2013 Kawhi averaged 13 points and 2 assists. But he was good on defense and was improving offensively.
It was a legitimate debate in 2013, but Parsons got injured and never really came back from it and Kawhi kept getting better and better. And I'm not saying Parsons would ever have been MVP-caliber like Kawhi... but most people didn't imagine Kawhi would be this good either. I'm just explaining how Parsons got paid.
