I have heard it said a few times that these were declared as national monuments. If they are federally protected wouldn't it be a crime to remove them?

FWIW I don't really care because I don't live in New Orleans and my family didn't come to the USA until 1903. The Confederacy doesn't mean a whole lot to me. I do think its stupid for a city to spend money it doesn't have to remove them.

Well if they're gone now, whatever reasons you heard for the city being unable to move them, really weren't that impactful

You couldn't have thrown this in with one of the 10 other threads?

Thank god we are creating so many monument threads. As someone who isn't in Louisiana I like keeping apprised of the goings on there and all these threads really emphasize the importance of this issue.

I doubt even if they were federally protected anything would be done because the nature of the excuse they are using for removing them.

I was just curious if they were protected and if it was a crime to remove them. Other than passing Lee Circle I doubt that I have ever laid eyes on any of them.

I asked a simple question for someone who actually knows something to answer. As you stated you are not in Louisiana this doesn't really concern you.

It's been litigated over and over again and the city has always won in the court of law. They have the right to remove them.

They are on the National Registery of historical places but the owner of the statue is allowed to remove them at any time

But you are on a Louisiana message board, wtf did you expect?

Don't take the time to click on the thread and comment if it pisses you off that much.
