I think David used the plants/animals/insects of the planet to experiment on. The first weapon we saw shot out of pods. So he possibly cultivated some plant to host the face highers. The seem to open like a flower.

So very predictable. They didn't need the twist. We could have seen David kill Walter and cut off his own hand. The suspense would have been held by simple dramatic irony: we know he's David but the crew do not.
What happened to the gestation and maturation period? Now everything seems to happen in like 30 seconds. Also, a facehugger can implant in less than 10 seconds? Would've been better to have them take Orem back on the ship and only have one Xenomorph.
Also- they just walked through a Holocaust like "Look at all these dead people. Oh well."
Every single horror movie cliche was present: people make incredibly stupid decisions, going off alone, doing it in the shower...
