Yes element can be replaced. Just didn't know if I should just bite bullet and replace the entire tank because of age

That depends on the type of water you have. Some water eats tanks in just a few years, other water you can have 30yo tanks still trucking along.

If its in an area (like garage) where it won't matter too much if it springs a leak then I'd just replace the element if I could.
