The main difference between World War I and World War II is as follows:

World War I - Let's see how many men we can kill in the most horrible ways possible.

World War II - Worldwide battle between good and evil fighting for the soul of humanity.

In fact, you could make a compelling argument that World War I set the conditions that made World War II happen.

I wouldn't call it argument. I would call it fact. There is no World War II without World War I. The three main instigators of that conflict (Germany, Italy, and Japan) based all of their grievances on what happened in the aftermath of World War I.

Germany, a defeated party, was forced to take the brunt of the blame for the war and suffered economic hardships as a result. Italy and Japan, both members of the Entente, were promised territories for their efforts in the war but got the shaft at Versailles.
