I wouldn't be surprised if it weren't an exact replication, but I don't have any reason to believe there was anything intentionally misleading on it. And I guess I'm as convinced of its substantive authenticity as I am of anything else I can't independently verify. That wasn't really the point of my post, though. I can't believe someone SavageOrange's age could make the argument that a half-black baby would have been listed as or considered white anywhere in this country in 1961. I have to imagine he knows better than that. There are blacks who look one hell of a lot whiter than Obama who were never considered white (look at some black members of families in Louisiana like the Honores and Darensbourgs or someone like Harold Ford).

If it could happen anywhere it would probably have been Hawaii - they had only recently been granted statehood and they may have been struggling with the aftermath of that. I'm unfamiliar with whether or not "colored" may have been the default situation if one had 'black blood' as it was in the south at that time.
