quote:
Small government has money to pay for public defendants.
In small government, the DA and the public defender are funded from the same pool of money. They are given equal, dedicated resources.
DA's nor police should receive any revenue from tickets or asset forfeiture.
Workers at crime labs who purposefully yield fraudulent results should suffer the same sentence that was imposed on anyone wrongfully incarcerated due to those fraudulent results.
Assets can only seized with a formal criminal charge, they must be connected to that charge, and in the event charges are dropped or a not-guilty verdict is reached, they must be returned to the person, or persons, from which they were seized immediately and without any further proceedings. People who had their assets seized should not have to then sue to get their stuff back after already having to fight to be exonerated.
If we still have to ticket and have asset forfeiture at all, that money should go into funding roads and only roads.
