Too much stuff on the hard drive. Weighs it down. You need to remove some data to remove weight so it can spin freely.

Sorry but that is not it. Maybe the data can "weigh" down the hard drive as in speed. But, data would add such a miniscule weight to the hard drive it would be virtually unnoticable.

So I get downvoted four times for pointing out that a hard drive does not change weight because it weighs as much as it is going to fresh out the box? The only thing that really changes is the magnetization that "forms" the data. Some "tech" board.
