The real question is why can't they make a great antiquity war movie?

I guess Spartacus and Gladiator comes the closest as a rebellion.

But Alexander the Great movies all suck.

Most Roman movies suck. (The Eagle was pretty damn good though but its such a tiny story).

Greek war movies suck. We have no Egyptian war movies.

Where's the Hannibal movie done in grand scale and fashion?

Attila the Hun? (they made Mongol - his childhood, which was great and there was supposed to be a follow-up as a trilogy but it never happened.)

I was listening to some historians commenting on the battle of Gladiator and I'll probably do a thread about it the next few days and they said the battle was only had two things accurate. It was bad enough that the historical consultant requested that her name be removed from the credits.

I'm with you. There are countless interesting battles and events littered through history, but instead we get a WWII movie every year. I guess they're expensive to make and not as popular. How badass would these be in a R rated big budget movie: Peloponnesian War, Jewish revolt in 70, Babylon toppling Assyria, Persia toppling Babylon, Maccabean revolt...

Kingdom of Heaven wasn't bad.
I love 300 although I know it's obviously a graphic novel.
Ironclad, Arn, and Black Death are very good Middle Ages movies but none are epic.
Ben Hur, Spartacus, and Gladiator are all I got for Roman.

The 1st, 3rd and 4th Crusades would each make incredible movies or miniseries.
