Why would Haywood leave all that extra money on the table to leave Utah?

To play for a better team, easier chance to get to finals, former head coach at butler, and because he wants to play for a coach who isn't coked up 3/4 of the time.

No, Quin Snyder doesn't look liked he's coked up!

All of that sounds nice, and it may not seems like a lot to you and me when we're talking about hundreds of millions, but dudes aren't going to willingly give up the 40-70 million, whatever the hometown max deal is(for 1st or 2nd non-rookie deal with team that drafted you). That's a lot of cheese to anybody.

None of that is worth giving up $50 to $100 million

Other teams are limited in the length of contract and the size of yearly raises they can offer Hayward. While the Jazz can offer a 5-year deal at 30 percent of the cap, with 8 percent raises every year, other teams can only offer a 4-year deal, with 5 percent raises every year. If Hayward signs with another team, he also becomes ineligible to ever sign a Designated Player deal. That's missing out on potentially 35 percent of the cap for the next three seasons, until he has those 10 years of NBA experience. In other words, he'd be losing out on about $45 to $100 million of guaranteed money, depending on whether or not he qualifies for DPE status.

The folks in Columbia must be loving the feel good media coverage of Quin Snyder's redemption story.
