Did you call a local company to install or call dish direct? Local companies will try to push old equipment on you
If you just got it installed I would complain to get the hopper 3, and threaten to cancel if you are still in the first few weeks.

I purchased online via Dish website. I don't think I had the option to go with the Hopper 3.
