I was also thinking through the medical element as well. How simply being wounded could be a death sentence. It's a lot to think about.

WWI and Vietnam

WWI had just massive, idiotic killing. The trench warfare was ridiculous with numerous, highly unqualified officers (for the Brits) sending men in droves to die to gain a trench or two that would be lost in a few days.

Vietnam had the unknown factor and the beginning of guerilla warfare on a huge scale. Couldn't imagine being in such an unfamiliar, unforgiving place never knowing where the enemy might be hiding. It's been a while since I read Four hours in My Lai, but I can imagine mental states were way off when that massacre happened.

Unrelated, MASH is best war centric, non documentary, show.
