I think Reid and (evidently) Payton see his potential as Brett Favre Big arm gunslinger who just ran around in college and made some great throws and some horrible throws. Reid helped mold Favre. I guess he thinks he can do the same with Mahomes.

Of all the available QBs, he likely has the best chance of becoming a star
