Can someone explain in layman's terms what is a compensatory pick and how do teams earn them?

If a team loses a top-tier player to FA, they may get a compensatory (extra ) pick at the end of the 3rd rd. Not sure exactly how they measure it. Thought Cowboys would get one for losing Ronald Leary, for instance, to Denver

3rd round is the highest you can get. There are comp picks at the end of rounds 3-7. You have to lose a pretty big FA and not replace him in order to get the 3rd round pick, but the formula is not made to the public

They will but it will be in next year's draft iirc. Dallas should have something like 10 picks next year.

I LOVE that pick. Xavier Woods
