I think many cities put a lot of tax money towards improving perception or aesthetics. Especially successful cities.

Just the press release will probably result in more revenue than it costs to tear it down.

Well, that pretty much leaves New Orleans out. In 10 years you will still have a poor city wrought with crime and drugs. You will continue to have an African American population who as a whole will be no better off then as today. In fact, I'll wager to say that nothing much will change in 25 years except that St. Tammany Parish will hold the power and population edge for the area.

BTW....I'm all for tearing down the statues of Lee and Davis....they were not from New Orleans and did nothing for New Orleans. Beauregard on the other hand, was from here and came back here after the war. Plus his statue is BETTER than Lee's statue
