I believe the guy sat next to a snake and it didn't move. I don't know about the story of getting up and coming back, but I believe you can set a gun next to one time that and it not move. I've came across a good many in my years of working and hunting in the woods, and I'd rather walk through one acre infested with 200 timber rattlesnakes than 10 acres with the same amount of wasp nests.

I have been around quite a few timber rattlers and only once was one very aggressive.

It was in December and sunning in the open woods (eyes cloudy about to shed). I saw it from 30 feet away. Once I got about 15 feet from it, it lunged and struck in my direction. I don't think it could see me, just heard me and felt vulnerable.
